About Pixie

We think photos got too good.

Somewhere between 2010 and now, phone cameras got so sharp that photos stopped feeling like anything. Every shot is bright, level, perfectly exposed — and every night looks like every other night. You have thousands of them. You open almost none.

The photos people actually keep are the bad ones. Blown-out flash, weird colour, someone blinking. They look like a specific evening because they are a little wrong.

That is the whole idea

Pixie sells small retro digital cameras that make photos the way they came out in 2004. Not because old technology is better — it is not — but because a small sensor and a hard flash produce something a $2,000 camera has to fake in editing.

Right now people are paying $150 to $300 on resale sites for the point-and-shoots they threw in a drawer fifteen years ago. We think that is a lot of money for a fifteen-year-old camera with an unknown battery. So we sell a new one, for $119.99 with the memory card already in it and shipping included, with a screen that flips around so you are in the photo instead of always behind it.

How we price

There is no logo tax here and no marketing budget baked into the price. We buy well, we mark up honestly, and we put the shipping cost in the price instead of surprising you at checkout.

What we will not do

  • We will not invent reviews or star ratings. When we have real customers, you will see real reviews.
  • We will not run fake countdown timers or invented stock numbers. If a page says nine left, there are nine left.
